ObjectifyThis is a blog about the objectification of people in popular culture. Objectification occurs in the forms of racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, and other kinds of intolerance.

Why are women often characterized as objects while men are made into subjects? Is it a fear or noncomprehension of female sexual desire? Is it the autohomophobia of the male gaze? Or does it stem from a misogyny which is the ultimate root of homophobia? How does classism occur, and why isn’t it recognized? How and why do we experience racism? What is homophobia, and where does it come from?

Our accelerating production and consumption of popular culture increasingly judges issues—funny, sexy, or risqué—without taking the time to examine them.

This virtual collage juxtaposes misrepresentations of people and their triumph over those misrepresentations. These posts are attempts to question hegemonic impositions and impostors. But I am no authority on anti-authoritarianism, so step up and correct me when I’m wrong.
