What?

ObjectifyThis is a blog about the objectification of people in the popular culture, in the forms of racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, and other kinds of intolerance.

Why are women often characterized as objects while men are made into subjects? Is it a fear or noncomprehension of female sexual desire? Is it the autohomophobia of the male gaze? Or does it stem from a misogyny which is the ultimate root of homophobia?

How does classism occur, and why isn’t it recognized? How and why do we experience racism? What is homophobia, and where does it come from?

These questions are important because our increasingly fast-paced popular culture increasingly judges issues—funny, sexy, or risqué—without taking the time to examine them in greater depth.

In this blog I will construct a virtual collage of examples of objectification in the media, and compare the representations of  different kinds of people.
