"I Am A Consumer Whore! And How!": Don Hertzfeld's Offbeat Humor
There’s something really awesome about parodies of our commercial culture, like the Don Hertzfeld video “Rejection” after the jump (nod, Nadia). Maybe it’s because it makes it easier to laugh at the consumerism and materialism that chronically infect up our lives, or because we get so many messages that assume that we’re consumer whores that it’s easy to forget we don’t have to buy every new product that comes down the line.
Maybe it’s because we are consumer whores. Maybe it’s because I just like offbeat humor, (especially Get Your War On , Toothpaste For Dinner , and Dinosaur Comics -thanks to my cuz Jake, Dan, and Bill, respectively). Check out this video (warning: very very fake stick-figure atrocities ensue), and imagine people in suits and box-shaped offices frowning. This makes me really happy.
